The Position:

We are seeking an experienced and energetic Automation/Programming Process Engineer to support our Engineering and Manufacturing Departments.  Ideal candidates will have excellent communication and organizational skills, be self-motivated, able to multi-task and work efficiently.  The Automation/Programming Process Engineer is responsible for developing, writing, and maintaining programs for automated equipment including Trumpf lasers, Amada ATC press brake, Amada Pega CNC, Fanuc, and Universal Robots UR series integrated robotic arms and other automated fabrication platforms for products from beginning-concept into the final marketplace.

Essential Functions

  • Interfaces with other engineers, technicians, and project team members to determine & achieve desired product requirements.
  • Discusses design, method of manufacture, method of test, and other procedures with team members to coordinate product development & realization with information provided via CAD drawings to develop programs for the equipment to produce parts.
  • Supports Material Planning with vendor/supplier quotes and price negotiations, recommendations, and problem resolution and technical issues/questions for machine parts and software licenses.
  • Research new techniques, products, materials, and processes as well as new vendors/suppliers as required.
  • Works to optimize the manufacturing processes by reducing set up & production time while sustaining or improving quality.
  • Perform product qualifications, evaluate product, and project requirements, and assist in development of products.
  • Support metal, plastic, and assembly work cells to reduce scrap and implement poke yoke solutions to eliminate human error.

Essential Tasks

  • Set up and validate CNC and automated programs for product or component evaluation and/or validation.
  • Perform required tests for product verification, validation, quality, and production. Observe and record test results. Generate formal test and design evaluation reports for engineering approval.
  • Design, document, assemble, and evaluate/test prototype and modified production for mechanically produced products.
  • Provide written and resource data into the company's ISO-driven QMS system.
  • Provide written proposals and justifications for improving product performance, reliability, cost, etc.
  • Provide written engineering change packages to drive product development and production part changes for company approval.
  • Provide or suggest sources for new products/components. Perform required tests to evaluate new products/components.
  • Support converting manual operations into automated processes.
  • Support Manufacturing Managers.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Associates or Technical degree (of higher) in Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering or Automation required

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 1-3 years programming in following CNC, Karel, G Code, Trump Tru Tops, Amada ATC, or PLC (AB, Siemens etc.)

  • Metal Fabrication, Plastics or Controls Automation experience preferred

  • Prior experience in automated vision systems is a plus


Skills

Computer Skills

  • Proficient using MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook)
  • Ability to learn MiTek's internal systems and other programs as needed
  • Experience using SolidWorks 3D CAD and / or AutoCAD is a plus

Other Requirements

  • Intermediate understanding of metal cutting, stamping, forming, and welding operations
  • Intermediate understanding of materials used in plastics and metal manufacturing a plus
  • Willing to travel on a periodic basis
  • Intermediate experience with robotics, automation
  • Hands-on skills with hand and power tools
  • Intermediate experience with calibrated measuring devices including vernier calipers, micrometers, and electronic multimeters
  • Project management skills with multiple simultaneous responsibilities a plus
  • Lean Six Sigma experience is a plus
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment is a plus

Work Environment

Normal office setting, except when traveling.
